About Our Product

RectAid is a novel hemorrhoid and anal itch microbiome-directed product that employs a lidocaine-based composite topical treatment in combination with healing restorative vitamins, and skin barrier function and protectant agents. Lidocaine is a common topical anesthetic agent commercially available in concentrations from 1 to 5%. Lidocaine alters signal conduction in neurons by blocking sodium channels in the neuronal cell membrane thus creating an anesthetic effect. The product combines the known anesthetic action of standard lidocaine, with keratinocyte and dermal barrier strengthening effect as well as anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, leading to excellent results in anal itch.

This composite rejuvenating and healing therapy is designed to anesthetize the itch and discomfort associated with hemorrhoids and pruritus ani, decrease anal sensitivity, improve the epidermal permeability barrier, strengthen keratinocytes and also contains protectant and antibacterial properties. This product, when used topically will help with pruritus ani primary infection and also the secondary effects of the itch-scratch-itch cycle. The product is also intended to restore a healthy, natural, itch-resistant microbiome to the peri-anal region.

The ingredients used in RectAid are as safe, or safer, than existing OTC pruritus ani products, since all of the individual ingredients in the novel preparation are currently available and approved for sale in the US. Study products are compounded under the FDA-approved OTC monograph 21 cfr 346 for Anorectal Topical Products and are commercially approved for use anywhere in the United States.

RectAid yielded outstanding treatment response to pruritus ani and anal itch associated with hemorrhoids. Ninety percent of patients were asymptomatic by the end of a 2 week study, with most patients achieving a complete treatment response within the first 48-72 hours.

FaQ

RectAid is a highly effective, quick-acting product for rectal/anal itch (medically termed “pruritus ani”) and also for the itching and burning associated with internal or external hemorrhoids. The product is a novel, unique ointment comprised of a specially formulated lidocaine along with healing minerals and vitamins. The novel ointment combines the known anesthetic action of standard lidocaine, with keratinocyte and dermal barrier strengthening effect as well as anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties, leading to outstanding results in rectal itch and hemorrhoids. Clinical studies have demonstrated almost 100% resolution of itch with almost all patients responding within 48-72 hours.

The medical condition known as pruritus ani (commonly referred to as rectal or anal itch) is probably the most common ano-rectal disorder in America, and in the developed world. It has been estimated that approximately 5% of Americans experience some level of rectal/anal itch on a daily basis, so this malady can affect as many as 15 million US residents at any given time.

Pruritus ani can have multiple causes including hemorrhoids, diarrhea, multiple loose or soft stools, that are not entirely cleared post-defecation, leakage of stool from rectal incontinence or frequent passage of gas with some stool leakage, excess anal perspiration, perianal infection, or fungal overgrowth in the anal region. Antibiotic use can potentially lead to yeast overgrowth of the perianal region. Another consideration is that for whatever reason the rectal/anal itch initially occurs, a vicious cycle known as the “itch-scratch-itch” cycle can secondarily occur, wherein scratching the itch causes the release of inflammatory chemokines, which secondarily worsens the itch by causing redness, increased itching and dry skin, thereby causing a “rebound” effect.

No, RectAid is a completely steroid-free product.

In a recent clinical study of RectAid, the product was well-tolerated by almost everyone. However, there are well-known cases of topical lidocaine allergy, with associated hives, redness and irritation that can occur. If you experience any of these issues you should immediately discontinue use of the product and consider medical attention.

The affected area should be cleaned and dried. Using your finger, adults and children over age 12 should apply a pea-sized amount of RectAid ointment to the affected area,    1- 6 times daily, as needed. You can apply the product until the symptoms are alleviated.

Testimonials

I was part of the clinical team that studied RectAid, and I can honestly say that it’s the best rectal itch product I’ve ever used for patients with this condition. RectAid works better than any other product I’ve seen; it works very quickly and is highly efficacious.

I had rectal itch for over 20 years and nothing was really managing it. I was driving my wife crazy with scratching and itching all night. Then I tried RectAid and it worked like magic. This product literally saved my marriage. If you have this condition, you really need to try RectAid.
